The Beauty Report Card #2:

Lancome Grandiose Mascara

Hit or Miss...

Let's throw it back to the days when spending more than $25 on a mascara seemed, quite frankly bloody ridiculous to a student saver (ME). Now keep your disapproving looks to a minimum, while you read this post...

Eyes to Mesmerise (if I can say so myself...)

What: Lancome Grandiose Mascara Black

Where:  Online and in-store at Mecca and in-store at David Jones and Myer (online too, you know the drill)

Price: $54 (yep, slightly eye-watering...)

The product: This mascara is perhaps the best I have ever used. I'd previously fallen in love with the Too Faced Better Than Sex (see this previous post) and although true love should last a lifetime, there are some huge differences between the Too Faced mascara and the Lancome Grandiose. While majorly defining and thickening, Better than Sex can apply thick and clumpy looking heavy on the eyes. The lashes can look spidery and once applied the formula can feel tacky and it becomes harder to separate the lashes.

Lancome Grandiose on the other hand, is extremely lengthening. It is enhanced when the lashes are curled beforehand (a MUST in my book) and the mascara separates them evenly, no clumpy and sparse looking lashes to see here! Its ability to transform the eyes and open the entire face is notable (the goal of all mascaras but some rarely achieve it). The formula is not tacky, where some mascaras can leave the lashes feeling stuck together and immobile, Grandiose is easily brushed through to add or remove the product and hence, volume with it.

Pros: One of the main defining features of this mascara is its unique wand - described as a 'swan neck' it works cohesviely with the curves of the face, allowing the brush to reach the inner corners of the eye and its lashes in order to coat each individually. It's a dream! You can almost, ALMOST avoid that dreaded black smudge on the bridge of your nose if you are patient (something I need to work on..)

Cons: Despite providing the eyelashes of your dreams,  Lancome Grandiose, like many good things in life, takes time to perfect the wide-eyed lashes look and the more time you spend combing the product through the lashes the better they become. If you're looking for a mascara that gives extreme length in one sweep, then this isn't your gal. BUT beauty is pain (in this case a slightly sore arm) and your eyes will thank you - so will your self confidence with all the fabulous compliments you'll receive!
